We have been agents for over 20 years. We have tried many lead vendors and have wasted thousands of dollars on bogus leads. In our opinion, a bogus lead is someone who never requested more information on a life insurance quote. We call them "mattress leads." A mattress lead is someone who is filling out information online for something else, like winning a free mattress. Their data then gets sold as a life insurance lead to a lead vendor, who then flips it for a cost to a life insurance agent.
Live transfers are increasingly becoming a popular trend in fake leads. These lead generation firms will contact RANDOM seniors in a selected area and then connect them to you, the agent, for an exorbitant fee. Consider why you would want to pay a high price for a lead that never initially requested information. In our view, the only effective way live transfers work is if potential clients see the advertisement and contact you, the agent, directly without any intermediaries.
Tip #1 - Call Your Leads
In the lead game, speed is crucial. Our leads arrive in real time, so it's essential to call them immediately.
Tip #2 - Follow up
We've all heard the saying, "the money is in the follow-up." Typically, most sales occur after the third call. Many agents fail to follow up and then blame the leads. Ensure you have a CRM to manage your lead flow and follow-up schedule effectively.
Not every lead is going to be a sale and not every sale is going to happen on the first call. YOU MUST FOLLOW UP ON YOUR LEADS.
